A bill to protect the rights of call centre workers in The Philippines looks set to be enacted. Among other things, the new law gives night shift workers the right to stay in their place of work until daybreak. Most call centre agents work night shift (or a twilight shift for those covering the European marketplace) and this new bill won't be an issue for the larger outsourced vendors, most of which already have sleeping arrangements within their facilities. Approximately half of call centre workers suffer from insomnia and a similar number from fatigue. The law will also ensure that staff salaries are paid on time even for those companies going bankrupt and look to assist staff suffering from workplace injuries.
