Westpac promises call
centres are safe
Westpac chairman
Leon Davis has told shareholders the bank would
shift jobs overseas if the move proved to be in the company's best
interests. Speaking at the company's annual general meeting in Brisbane,
Mr Davis said the Westpac board would consider offshoring IT and other
services to ensure the bank remained competitive. However, he assured
shareholders that Westpac's Australian and New Zealand call centres were
safe, saying that only staff based in Australia would speak to
customers.
