India's BPO industry is concerned over reported plans by the Karnataka state government to close down over 1400 schools that were teaching in English.

The Karnataka government says young children are more comfortable learning in their own language, but outsourcer banking on an English-speaking workforce have voiced concern. "Today, English is a basic necessity for employability in both IT and ITES. Rama Kumar, Chairman of Tarang Software told reporters "The fact that it is generating employment in such large numbers in a country with such a large population, I would say why should we even risk engaging these students in a medium other than English,"
