Computer company Hewlett Packard (HP) will outsource a reported 200 IT hepdesk jobs to Malaysia, according to The Australian.
Fifty workers left HP's managed services business – which provides telephone computer support – last week, a further 80 staff will be laid off in November and 70 contractors will be kept on until March, the newspaper reported. "It's been on the cards for a while, and employees have been kept in the loop," an HP spokesman told reporters.
The cuts effect second-level diagnostics staff in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide, while entry-level work would remain in Australia. The HP spokesman said the company would continue to provide local support to any customer that requested it.
